San Diego State University has produced several talented basketball players who have gone on to play in the NBA. Here are some of the notable NBA players who attended San Diego State:
- Kawhi Leonard - Kawhi Leonard is one of the most well-known NBA players to come out of San Diego State. Leonard played for the Aztecs from 2009-2011 and led them to two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. He was drafted 15th overall by the Indiana Pacers in 2011 and was later traded to the San Antonio Spurs, where he won an NBA championship and was named Finals MVP. Leonard now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers and is a two-time NBA Finals MVP.
- Malcolm Thomas - Malcolm Thomas played for San Diego State from 2007-2011 and helped lead the Aztecs to their first-ever Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. He went undrafted in 2011 but signed with the Los Angeles Lakers the following year. Thomas has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Utah Jazz, and Philadelphia 76ers.
- Michael Cage - Michael Cage played for San Diego State from 1980-1984 and was a two-time All-WAC selection. He was drafted 14th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1984 and went on to have a successful 15-year NBA career. Cage played for several teams, including the Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics, and Philadelphia 76ers.
- Jamaal Franklin - Jamaal Franklin played for San Diego State from 2010-2013 and was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection. He was drafted 41st overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 and played for the team for one season before being waived. Franklin has also played overseas, including stints in China and Italy.
- Randy Holcomb - Randy Holcomb played for San Diego State from 1998-2002 and was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2002. He was drafted 57th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2002 and played for the team for one season. Holcomb also played overseas, including stints in Israel, Spain, and Russia.
- Kawhi's teammate Matt Mitchell - Matt Mitchell played for San Diego State from 2017-2021 and was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2021. He helped lead the Aztecs to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference three times. Mitchell went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft but signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.
