Discrimination and racism has always been the plague of the American society. This xenophobia has pushed a lot of people to do very heinous things to other individuals who have an equal claim to a proper life. Charles Barkley had to see this at the point where he was just pulled out of the womb which was very unfortunate.
You read that right! Charles Barkley was born in Alabama. The NBA legend's parents found themselves in a hospital that separated their patients based off the color of their skin. At that healthcare facility in Leeds, he was the first black baby to have ever been born because it was supposedly just catered to an all-white population.
Later on, these realities would further sink into the young Barkley's life. He and his mother got abandoned by their father which made life very hard. At school, things were not getting easier too. In fact, he was part of the first batch of black students to have ever stepped and gotten the opportunity to study in that very same school.
Those experiences from a young age clearly shaped how Barkley thought of himself, his behavior, and the way he protected himself over time. Now, he still gets a lot of vitriol due to his race and nothing else. This is despite the fact that he has proven himself as a worth NBA legend and great TV personality.
