NBA fans tend to hurl a lot of unjust vitriol towards their favorite players. The most common insult thrown at them has to be about either their facial features or just something that cannot be changed about their bodies. Donyell Marshall has been the subject of this type of scrutiny. Some have even claimed that he could very well be the ugliest player in all of league history.
Donyell Marshall was a journeyman in the NBA. He often locked a permanent rotation spot due to his high scoring production on the court at times. This forward played in the league for a fairly long time too. His tenure in the association lasted from 1994 all the way to 2009.
Throughout that time, he spent a lot of time with different franchises. His longest run was with the Golden State Warriors and the breakout season of his dreams happened with the Toronto Raptors. Despite his odd facial proportions, he was a very elite scorer which made fans from all over hate him due to his insane nature to pop off on offense. In fact, he notched 11 points per game throughout his career which is very good for someone who was just an afterthought in most coaches' heads.
There may be a lot of things said about his appearance or gums but these people cannot take away the fact that he balled out and even beat some of their favorite players. Marshall was exceptional and not an ounce of unwarranted vitriol could stain his legacy on the offensive side of the court.
