There is perhaps no player in the NBA that knows Derrick Rose more than Jimmy Butler. The former mentored the latter in the Chicago Bulls system until they both became stars in their own rights. However, the youngest Most Valuable Player in league history then had a tragic downfall which no one expected. They would later on reunite through the Minnesota Timberwolves but things just were not the same.
The relationship between Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose is founded on a lot of respect. They have shouted and blamed each other during huddles many times but that's because the two love winning. Despite this, they still had one of the best team chemistry in all of league history. So, when the Bulls legend decided to call it a career, it was very easy for the star out of Marquette to send his love.
“I think what he's done for the game of basketball, what he's done for the city of Chicago, for the organization the Chicago Bulls and for myself, I think we should all be grateful that we got the opportunity to compete against him. I got to compete with him. You know, be a coach and just learn from him as a whole man. You know, when I was coming to the league at 21 like he was the man. He put so much fear in so many other individuals' eyes. You know, to watch his career come to an end, I'm happy for him because he's happy. He's going on to do whatever he wants to do, but he ended it the way he wanted to," Butler said.
As of the moment, Rose is just enjoying his retirement in private and people don't know too much about him these days. Meanwhile, Butler is still chasing a legacy-altering resume as he hopes to win a championship with the Miami Heat before the twilight of his career hits.
