No one in the major sports leagues has reached such great athletic heights and maintained their dominance for a long time quite like LeBron James. He has the transformative power to turn around franchises like the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. But, every great man has a woman who helped him notch great lengths. For The King, it had to be his mother. So, what's up with Gloria James these days?
LeBron James was born to Gloria James when she was just 16 years old. Despite braving the challenges of parenthood alone, she did quite well in keeping her son away from the terrible realities of life. Eventually, his love for basketball grew and along with it came a lot of fame too. So, he kept him tethered and humble despite his insane rise to stardom. The King paid it back and gave her mother the most comfortable life possible while his name grew big in the NBA.
As of the moment, she could very well be retired but his son has kept her busy. Gloria currently runs the LeBron James Foundation to help underprivileged kids in the Ohio area. In fact, it was her who inspired the NBA legend to start his 'I Promise' school: "There is no IPS without Gloria James. She gave me the tools. She gave me the blueprint. She gave me the life skills, so when it was time for me to put something like this together, along with our team, I just went back to everything that my mom taught me."
More than having her career in philanthropy thrive, Gloria is also a proud grandmother. She likes spending time with Bryce, Bronny, and Zhuri whenever time allows. Despite the distance in their homes because she does not live with her son anymore, Gloria makes sure to check in with LeBron a lot. Her love for him was the only reason why modern NBA fans could see this generational great on the court and idolize him.
