One of the 3-and-D pioneers, Danny Green, announces his retirement after 15 seasons in the NBA (October 10). Green played his last season in 2023-24 with the Philadelphia 76ers before being waived after the trade that sent James Harden to the LA Clippers.
The three-time champ announced his decision to step away from the game through his podcast, followed by several social media posts saying, “I’m officially moving on from the game of basketball, the NBA. It’s been a great run,” Green shared. “To me, I’m very proud to be able to walk away from the game. I’m at peace with it.”
“My body was letting me know. I was getting little calf strains here and there. But also, when you get older, teams aren’t calling as much. Unfortunately, my services weren’t as sought after as they were when I was younger. It’s been a hell of a ride,” he added.
Green clinched the 2009 NCAA Championship as a senior for the Tar Heels, which helped his draft stock rise coming into the NBA. He started his journey in the league with the Cleveland Cavaliers and then proceeded to have an illustrious 15-year NBA career.
The elite two-way guard is one of four players in NBA history to win three chips with different teams (2014 with Spurs, 2019 with Raptors, 2020 with Lakers), the other three players being LeBron James, Robert Horrey, and John Salley.
A true journeyman, Green played for a handful of teams, often finding success as a knockdown three-point shooter and a lockdown defender.

He drained 1,577 threes to place him 43rd all-time in NBA history, while shooting it at a cool 40% to boot. Aside from respectable career stats, the 37-year-old is also a 3x NBA champion (2014, 2019, 2020), an NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2017), and an NCAA champion (2009).
