Jimmy Butler is one of the best players in the NBA. Difficult as it may to believe, the Miami Heat star didn’t have enough support throughout his journey to greatness. He even experienced being homeless when his own mother kicked him out at 13 years old.
Who Are Jimmy Butler’s Biological Parents?
Jimmy Butler is Jimmy Butler Sr. and Londa Butler’s son. The small family lived in Houston, Texas before his father decided to leave him and his mother alone. As a teenager, Jimmy was kicked out of the home. He recalled that his mother said to him, “I don't like the look of you. You gotta go.”
Since then, Jimmy has had to stay at his friends’ houses, bouncing from one home to another. This went on until the summer just before his senior year when he met Jordan Leslie.
Who Adopted Jimmy Butler?
Jordan Leslie met Jimmy in high school and quickly became friends. Jordan would let Jimmy stay in their house for a few weeks. Eventually, Jordan’s parents agreed to let the homeless Jimmy stay with them for good.
“They accepted me into their family. And it wasn't because of basketball. She was just very loving. She just did stuff like that. I couldn't believe it," Butler said.
Jimmy got the support he needed for his collegiate career at Marquette University, Wisconsin. This also boosted his career, as the Chicago Bulls selected him as the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft.
Jimmy’s NBA career skyrocketed from there. He was even named the NBA's most-improved player in 2015.
Despite the ill past between Jimmy and his biological parents, he didn’t hold any grudges against them. He confirmed that they are all still in contact, and nothing will change his love for his parents.
