Derrick Rose recently announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 years following his release from the Memphis Grizzlies. The former No. 1 overall pick will be one of the biggest what-ifs in league history.
Derrick Rose would've been on his way to becoming one of the greatest point guards ever. He was the complete package because he could score from all three levels, defend, and make plays using his athleticism.
He was the youngest player in NBA history to win league MVP in 2011. However, leg injuries haunted him throughout his career, causing him to bounce around and play for six teams after his eight-year stint with the Chicago Bulls.
Rose will finish his NBA career with averages of 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on 45.6 percent shooting from the field in 723 games (518 starts).
Derrick Rose's Hall of Fame case
Despite winning the NBA MVP once, Derrick Rose might not make it to the Hall of Fame.
According to Basketball-Reference's probability calculator, the Chicago, Illinois native only has a 10.5 percent chance of making it because of his lack of championships, fewer accumulative stats, and other prestigious league awards.
Whether he makes it one day or not, the streets will never forget Derrick Rose because of what he once was. He deserves to have his jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls for bringing them back to relevancy when he was there.
