DK Metcalf
DK Metcalf is a star wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. He’s thrived with both Russell Wilson and Geno Smith, serving as a driving force on their offense. However, in 2024, DK has had an issue with turnovers…
DK’s Fumbles
Metcalf’s turnover issue began in Week Four on Monday Night Football in Detroit. With the Seahawks down 14-7 and driving to tie the game in the first half, Metcalf caught a pass but lost control of the football. The Lions gained control, and a nice return set them up for a touchdown which extended their lead to 14. The Seahawks lost the game by 12, and Metcalf’s fumble turned out to be a seven-point swing that may have cost them the game.
The struggles continue
Metcalf and the Seahawks were back in action six days later against the New York Giants in Seattle. The Seahawks, at 3-1, should have cruised to a win at home over the 1-3 Giants, but Metcalf again got in the way. He fumbled in the first half when the Seahawks trailed by three and were driving to score. Again, his fumble turned the ball over to the Giants, who went on to win by nine points. However, had the Seahawks scored on that drive, they may not have needed to kick the field goal that the Giants blocked in the fourth quarter to seal their win. Seattle likely would have already had the lead. Once again, Metcalf’s costly fumble may have lost his team the game.
Another mistake
Four days later, the Seahawks took on the 49ers on Thursday Night Football, and again, DK was at the center of controversy. With Seattle down 23-17 in the fourth quarter, Geno Smith threw a pass to DK that would have set the Seahawks up with a first down in 49ers territory. However, DK did not cut to the ball, instead cutting away from the ball and allowing the 49ers to secure an interception. That interception took the momentum away from Seattle, who went on to lose the game by 12.
Path forward
Despite his turnover issues, DK Metcalf is still a massively talented player who deserves to be on the field every Sunday. He is a physical receiver who dominates opposing defenses with his speed and strength. However, he does need to clean up his game if he wants to truly ascend and be among the elite receivers in football. Seahawks fans and teammates should hope that the worst of his turnovers are behind him.
