Davante Adams is reportedly on the trade block. Here are the five teams who would stand to gain the most from a Davante Adams trade.
5. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have struggled out of the gate in 2024, starting 1-4 and falling to the bottom of the NFC West. We've seen them bounce back from slow starts before; last year the Rams were 3-6 before finishing on a 7-1 run to make the playoffs.
This year, receiver injuries have cost them big time. The Rams are without Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, leaving veteran QB Matthew Stafford with very few options to throw the ball downfield. The offense has had to pivot to running the ball and quick passes to Tutu Atwell.
Imagine what a veteran like Stafford could do with a top receiver like Adams. Insert Kupp and Nacua back into the picture, and the Rams could once again come back from the dead.
4. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs don't need Davante Adams to succeed on offense. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have proven they can with whatever combination of weapons they are given. Tyreek Hill gets traded? No problem for them, they won the last two Super Bowls. Still, with both Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice out indefinitely, there is room for a new star WR in Kansas City.
The thought of watching a quarterback of Mahomes caliber throw to receiver with the talent and hands of Adams is tantalizing. However, there are teams who need Adams more, teams who are under more pressure to win now.
3. New Orleans Saints
The Saints probably should have already traded for Adams, who has publicly expressed interest in a reunion with Derek Carr. Adams and Carr have an established connection, as the duo played together at both Fresno State and in Las Vegas.
If the Saints want any chance to compete this year, Adams would be a huge add. Derek Carr is now injured, and the Saints receivers have struggled with catching passes. Chris Olave is good, but can get shut down by elite cornerbacks. Rashid Shaheed is incredibly fast, but struggles making contested catches, and the rest of the receiving corps has pretty much been a non-factor.
If the Saints want any chance of winning while Carr is out, they should go get new QB Jake Haener a star wideout to elevate his game. When Carr returns, that offense could challenge Atlanta and Tampa Bay for the division.
2. New York Jets
The Jets are desperate. Aaron Rodgers appears to be close to retirement, Robert Saleh just got fired, and they have already slipped below .500. Rodgers and Adams have an elite connection, and Rodgers needs to win now. Why not reunite for one last shot at glory together?
The Jets have good receivers like Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and Allen Lazard. However, they are still having problems, particularly on quick throws. Rodgers keeps throwing to spots that receivers just are not at, and it is costing them. Adams could change everything for the Jets offense.
1. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys need to win, and Davante Adams might be the best way to do it. Dallas has been in the playoffs three straight years, but still can't get out of the Divisional Round. Now, the Commanders appear poised as the future of the NFC East, and Dallas is starting to get desperate.
This may be Mike McCarthy's last chance as head coach, and Dak Prescott has now been paid big time money. Both of them have something to prove. The offense has been good, but not great. Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle have not carried the weight in the ground game, so perhaps the best way to fuel the offense is to invest in the passing attack. Pairing Adams with Ceedee Lamb would give the Cowboys the best WR duo in the league, and help Dak make another run at the Super Bowl.
