Mac Jones might be the one leading the Jacksonville Jaguars offense for the foreseeable future. This is largely because Trevor Lawrence went down hard after getting hit by Azeez Al-Shair during their clash against the Houston Texans. This has fans worried because the chances of making any meaningful postseason run between this and next year are looking bleak.
Trevor Lawrence looked like he was poised to pop off against the Texans defense. However, a hit in the second quarter by Azeez Al-Shair forced the Jaguars receiver to fall and grimace in a lot of pain. Benches cleared and a lot of fans gave the Texans defender an earful for what looked like a dirty play in their eyes. This really made the Jaguars players mad and it even led to a scuffle and some ejections.
Their quarterback, on the other hand, was quickly assisted and taken off by a cart. There is still no certainty what the nature of the injury is. But, Lawrence did assure their fans that he was feeling better after the game wrapped up.
His teammates, on the other hand, had to keep justifying why this sort of behavior from the Texans was not to be forgiven and why they stood up for Lawrence.
"Trev was going down. I saw it out of my peripheral, I got a pretty clear view of it. In that moment, instincts. It just didn't feel like a clean hit, so I just stick up for my quarterback. I just knew it was wrong. Because it's a dirty play. You stick up for your guys. That's how it goes," Evan Engram said.
