What's the update with Christian McCaffrey's injury?

It is very safe to say that the 2024 season has been quite the disaster for the San Francisco 49ers. Every one started the season with hopes of making another Super Bowl run but huge injuries played roles in bogging down the team's performance. A key loss for the majority of their run has been Christian McCaffrey. How is he doing and will Kyle Shanahan be able to field him before the season ends?
Christian McCaffrey shocked a lot of 49ers and NFL fans when it came to his early return into the field. A lot of people thought that he would not be playing in the season anymore because they suspected that his initial injury was an Achilles tendon tear. However, Kyle Shanahan and the rest of the staff found a way to get him ready for their clash against the Buffalo Bills.
But, it did not take long before the excited faithfuls' smiles turned upside down. McCaffrey went down with no contact against any player during a designed play where he was supposed to be the ball carrier. He was immediately escorted out of the game and his chances of coming back after this injury look very bleak.
Even Coach Shanahan outlined his dismay during the injury update: "It was frustrating. He had a great week of practice and I could feel his urgency and stuff. Thought he came out great, looking real good. He looked like he just got his shoestring there, he was about to break a house call. I'm guessing he got hurt on that play, I don't know I never got to talk to him, but hurt for him and tough for our team that that happened to him."
As of the moment, McCaffrey is yet to undergo an MRI for further evaluation. Many do think that this was a PCL injury which could rule him out for the rest of the season.
