Everybody knows how healthy of a relationship Ciara and Russell Wilson have. They have not been involved in any controversy and have grown to be very supportive of one another throughout the years that the two were married. However, the Seattle Seahawks legend and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback was married to someone else prior to this relationship. Why did Mr. Unlimited and her first wife, Ashton Meem, get divorced?
Russell Wilson and Ashton Meem met way back when they were in high school. The two were very good friends before finally deciding to give dating each other a chance. Everything turned out well and they stayed together for a fairly long time. This was despite the fact that they had a long-distance relationship because the quarterback decided to study in North Carolina State.
The two saw how much they were committed to one another. Wilson was also financially stable already because he was with the Seattle Seahawks. So, they decided to get married in 2012. Unfortunately, things did not work out between the two anymore. Many speculations suggested that there was an affair between Meem and Golden Tate but this was already debunked. So, a big reason might just be that the love faded between them: "I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this difficult time"
Now, Wilson has found the love of his life in Ciara. Just two years after Meem and the NFL great divorced, he got married to the singer. Both understand each other very well because they underwent marriages that did not quite work out the first time around.
