Johnny Manziel was the biggest name in all of football at one point in time. He was larger than the NCAA and even the NFL too. However, a lot of factors caved in which limited his success eventually but his dad was always there in terms of helping him out through these ups and downs. How instrumental was Paul Manziel to his son's growth from Texas A&M to the Cleveland Browns? Let's unlock their relationship together.
How was Johnny Manziel raised by his dad?
Paul Manziel and his wife, Michelle, gave birth to Johnny in Kerville, Texas. The family had Lebanese roots and was even tied to a big oil fortune due to Paul's father. However, they still struggled to make ends meet at one.
Johnny's parents had to work as bartenders in order to give him a proper education. This is largely because they did not inherit any of that oil money from their ancestor. Eventually, Paul moved on to two different industries: automotive dealerships and construction. Alongside all of this, they also guided Johnny on his journey until he got recruited to join the Texas A&M football program.
Paul Manziel keeping his son straightened out
Johnny had all of the fame get to his head at one point in his life. He struggled mightily after getting picked up by the Browns back in the 2014 NFL Draft. In fact, his first year saw him clock in a horrid passer rating of just 42 throughout the season. His scandals that revolved around drugs were also not helping his case of getting another shot at the NFL.
Johnny Football was slowly losing his acclaim and fans started to turn on him. Obviously, this did not please Paul at all. He even got real about his son's situation and came out to say that Johnny should be incarcerated if that's what will keep him from going downhill. As of the moment, the former Texas A&M star has picked his life up and found a home with the FCF Zappers.
