If the quarterback position has the storied Manning clan, the defensive unit boasts a a pair of brothers who have been ravaging offensive lines for such a long time. Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa may be playing for separate teams in the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Chargers but they are bonded by a big heritage. What is their shared culture you mask? Well, they are Italian.
What are Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa's roots?
The two are very intertwined with history on and off the field. For starters, John Bosa balled out for the Miami Dolphins. Despite their father only having played three seasons in the league, the love for the gridiron was clearly there for Nick and Joey. This was further reinfroced by the fact that they also had a cousin in Jake Kumerow who shared the same passion.
Often, these three would bond together with the pigskin and eventually grow up to being professionals. Nick landed with the 49ers and Joey ended up with the Chargers. The two have become historically great at making the legs of quarterbacks shiver due to their defensive acumen. Jake, on the other hand, fell in love with the other side of the field. He is currently a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Aside from the fact that they love football, the cousins have bonded over their Italian background. However, their family history is quite grim.
How is Tonny Accardo related to the Chargers and 49ers greats?
Well, he is their great-grandfather. Let's fill you in on why that name sort of brings some familiarity.
Accardo is also known as Joey Batters. He helped Al Capone in planning the 1929 St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Despite both Nick and Joey never being able to see their ancestor alive, the 49ers defensive menace had this to say about him.
"He’s an undercover legend. He keeps his stuff under the radar," he declared.
The Bengals wide receiver's father also showed a lot of reverence for their dearly departed loved one.
"To me, he’s just my grandfather and I love him. He’s a great man, a caring man. I remember him coming to ball games and being with us," he added.
Nick and Joey are clearly free from the shackles of their family's association with the mob. The two are still thriving in the league and might continue their dominance for years to come.
