Adversity is nothing new to Mike McDaniel. Prior to becoming the head honcho of the Miami Dolphins, he had already went through a lot. The biggest stinger had to involve his parents and the unfortunate accident that their family had to go through when he was still very young. What is his family life like and how did he get to the top of the NFL coaching ladder? We'll look into every single one of those details.
Mike McDaniel's Parents
Unknown to most, Coach McDaniel is actually a junior. His father, Mike Sr., and mother, Donna, ended up having him on the sixth of March back in 1983. The three were all set to become a very happy family in Colorado but tragedy struck when the young McDaniel was just four years old. Mike Sr. had been fatally wounded and ended up passing due to a car accident.
Donna had to raise the baby on her own but it was their environment which molded him into a great football mind. Why was that the case? Well, they lived very near to Northern Colorado University. This was the very same spot where the Denver Broncos led by none other than John Elway conducted their training camps.
What happened to the Dolphins HC's mom?
Donna did not give up on love just yet. In fact, it was the young Mike who serendipitously introduced his step dad to his mother. Gary McCune, the Broncos videographer, saw a sobbing Mike who had just lost his hat. The kid wanted to get Robert Delpino's autograph on it but the day just wasn't the luckiest for him.
McCune helped the lad get a new hat. Not long after this incident, Donna and McCune would cross paths. The two evidently hit it off and they got married. Who would have thought that the Dolphis head honcho would not only get a new cap but also a stepfather just because of this incident?
