Coach Andy Reid has found a lot of mentees throughout his run with the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Kansas City Chiefs. Fans know a lot about his relationship with guys like Donovan McNabb, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce. But, his personal life does not get talked about as often especially the fact that he has five kids. Who are these inspirations and Reid's life and how have they impacted his ability to stay in the world of football.
Andy Reid and his family life
Make no mistake, Big Red loves football a lot but he brings his family whenever he can too. Due to the constant need to move because Reid has been with three NFL teams, his family needed to adapt as well. He has five children with Tammy Reid and all of them have very intriguing backgrounds.
Garrett, his firstborn, was very close Andy when it came to sharing the same passion for football. He became an assistant for the Eagles but his stint was cut short due to his drug addiction. Eventually, the young coach succumbed to an overdose back in 2012 and it brought upon an unfortunate time in their family.
Coach Reid still has his wife and his four other kids to survive Garrett's legacy. Britt Reid, their second child, was also not safe from controversy. He also dabbled in coaching the Chiefs' linebacker corps but it was married by his involvements in a crash and an assault investigation. As of the moment, he is still in prison.
Crosby Reid, and Drew Anne Reid followed after Britt. Big Red's two daughters have chose to keep to themselves and avoid the world of football. However, they can be seen supporting the Chiefs whenever they have a crucial game.
The last of his children is Spencer Reid. He shared roughly the same path to football with his father. Spencer started out at BYU and eventually landed a job with Chiefs as their assistant strength coach.
The Chiefs HC's work-life balance
It is not easy to juggle constantly travelling with a Super Bowl-contending squad and being present in one's family. However, Coach Reid has managed to do just that and Tammy loves that his presence is always felt in their home.
"He would go in at these crazy hours and then he would come home by a quarter to 7 in the morning and do breakfast with the kids. He then would drive one group to school and I would take the others. Just to see your husband next to your sons, it's awesome. All the pictures we have of them hugging after games, just to know that they're with their dad and that they get to share this joy together. It's emotional," she declared.
Big Red's family life may be far from perfect but he has been exerting a lot of effort to love them a lot despite his many commitments in the world of football.
