Hailed as one of the greatest point guards in history and currently the head coach of Dallas Mavericks, Jason Kidd is not yet done writing his story in the NBA arena. This former triple-double threat in court has many viewers curious about his background. One of the questions being, is J-Kidd Irish?
J-Kidd’s Lineage
Jason Frederick Kidd was born on March 23, 1973, in San Francisco, California, to Steve and Anne Kidd. J-Kidd was born and raised in the States, making him legally an American citizen. However, his ethnic background is much more diverse. His father, Steve Kidd, is an African-American man, while his mother, Anne Kidd, is of Irish-American descent.
So, yes, he is part Irish. Jason Kidd has roots in Ireland but was brought up in an African-American household.
The Irish Mom: Anne Kidd
The Olympic gold medalist has stated in multiple interviews that he had great parental support growing up. Both Steve and Anne were focused on their children’s future and spent quality time with them, as stated by the Hall of Famer himself.
Anne Kidd was a professional computer programmer and worked for the Bank of America. Anne was said to be a great mother to her three children as well. Anne also is very supportive of her son’s career both in and out the court. In a mother’s day post earlier this year, Jason Kidd showed his love and appreciation to this mom that “started it all”.
Jason Kidd is known to be one of the greatest American professional basketball players. And while he was born and raised in all American fashion, Irish blood indeed runs through his veins being of Irish descent.
