Pacers legend Reggie Miller made the iconic choke gesture at the end of Game 5 against the New York Knicks during the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks were up by 12 points in the fourth quarter of the fame, but Reggie Miller answered with 25 points within that quarter alone. This event led to the chocking gesture, taunting Spike Lee and the Knicks community entirely.
Spike Lee and Reggie Miller Beef
Spike Lee is an avid Knicks fan, always on the courtside trash-talking opponents during games in the 1990s. Miller also had a pretty wild mouth. So when their teams were up against one another, it’s no wonder there was some friction and tension happening.
In 2015, Miller went to Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about the rivalry he has with Lee. He said that Lee talks “too damn much” and the taunting and mockery were “a little personal.”
Miller also talked about the rivalry in 2023 on the Dan Patrick Show, discussing how the beef with Lee started. Miller’s older sister was one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time. Lee would apparently shout ‘Cheryl was better,’ or anything else referencing how his sister is better than Miller.
For Spike-Lee, the beef is already behind the two of them considering how it’s been so long since. He told the New York Post, "That stuff is two-plus decades old. There's no rivalry between Reggie and I. It's all love.”
While the rivalry may or may not be out of the scene now, the choking gesture has remained iconic. Sure enough, it will stay as a part of Pacers legend Reggie Miller’s legacy as well.
