According to The Athletic, the New York Knicks have completed a trade for Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a future first-round pick via the Detroit Pistons.
The report later added that DaQuan Jeffries and draft compensation would be headed to the Charlotte Hornets, adding another team in the blockbuster deal.
So, who wins the deal? Continue reading below to learn more.
New York Knicks: B+
The New York Knicks badly needed a center following Isaiah Hartenstein's departure to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Mitchell Robinson's chronic injury woes.
By trading for Karl-Anthony Towns, not only is he a significant upgrade at the center position, but the New York Knicks also unclogged their forward rotation by letting go of Donte DiVincenzo.
Adding KAT is a big boost to the New York Knicks offense, with Jalen Brunson taking the lead role. Unlike Julius Randle, Towns can stretch the floor with his three-point shot, as he's hit 40.4 percent of his three-point attempts since the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign.
Minnesota Timberwolves: C+
The Minnesota Timberwolves did this deal because they wanted to unload Karl-Anthony Towns' contract down the road.
However, it is worth noting that Julius Randle is a career 33.3 percent three-point shooter. Minnesota will have spacing issues with him and Rudy Gobert leading their frontcourt, although adding a solid two-way guard in Donte DiVincenzo should help them this upcoming season.
