Why is Florida State's mascots heavily criticized?

The standards for what are acceptable in terms of cultural representation have gravely shifted. This has manifested in sports with changes in team names, diversity quotas, and everything in between. Florida State has been one of the biggest college programs which was heavily affected by criticism because of their Seminoles branding and mascot. So, why is it such a big talking point these days?
Major sports programs have already shifted branding from the MLB and NFL. The Cleveland Guardians and Washington Commanders have already moved away from their troubling past. Florida State has been one of the biggest programs that has not changed. They have still maintained Osceola and Renegade as the main faces of their squad. However, there is a big reason for it.
Florida State has been very adamant in clarifying what their Seminoles branding is and why they have continued to use it despite the surge of re-branding. The school even published their official stance on it: "[The relationship] is so mutually supportive that in 2005 the tribe—which rarely puts such things in writing—took an unprecedented, historic step with a public declaration of support.” Additionally, FSU clarifies that FSU does not have a mascot but the "honor of calling ourselves Seminoles."
Despite the use of the Seminole tribe in their imagery, Florida State has been very respectful in how they are treating the indigenous group. There will always be criticism when it comes to the university but it will be their actions which will dictate up to what degree they are criticized.
