Heisman Race 2024
Heisman Race 2024

The best player in college football is awarded one award: the Heisman Trophy. The annual award started in 1935. Seventy-eight players have won it, and only Archie Griffin, a running back from Ohio State, has won it twice. However, the 2024 race has been unlike any other. We have mainly a two-horse race in Jeanty and Hunter, but there are other players in this contest. So, who are the top five players in this Heisman Trophy race? Number one is the declared winner.
5. Dillon Gabriel (Oregon)
Dillion Gabriel, the former UCF and Oklahoma quarterback, is the fifth on the list because while he has had a great season, the Ducks are 12-0 and number one in the country, but with the other candidates, Gabriel's 3.275 yards do not compare to the other players.
4. Cam Ward (Miami)
Ward was a favorite of mine to win the Heisman Trophy early in the year. With his numbers all season long, Ward is a high favorite in the odds. However, Miami's latest losses and too many close calls have been holding Ward out of many voter decisions. Cam Ward is a completely different quarterback in the second half. He is better in the second half.
3. Sheduer Sanders (Colorado)
Sanders is in the top three because of his performance as a player in Colorado. With his play in Boulder, he has turned an entire program around. A central part of Coach Prime's "Louie Luggage" that he brought to Boulder this season has been having a better second season behind a phenomenal offensive line. The Buffs sat with two Heisman finalists and sent the campaign boxes for Sanders and Hunter out to the voters.
2. Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)
Now, Jeanty is a phenomenal running back, and his numbers have been better than Ingram and Barry Sanders Heisman's seasons, that's for sure. However, Jeanty does play in a non-Power Four conference with the Mountain West. He has played one Power 4 team in Oregon, and as he had a phenomenal game against the Ducks, that is the only P4 school he has played. Nonetheless, his numbers still make him a top contender.
1. Travis Hunter (Colorado)
Hunter is the most electric player in college football. With 1,152 yards and 23 touchdowns on the offensive side, he has four interceptions and one forced fumble on defense in all the snaps he has played. We have never seen a player like Hunter. We have seen players similar to him, but none completely like him. He is a phenom and should win the Heisman by a landslide.
The Heisman goes to the best player in college football. The best all-around player position does not play into the decision with the Heisman, or at least it shouldn't with this Hunter. Hunter should be the unanimous decision to win the Heisman, or should I say HE12MAN.
