There were only two names from the Notre Dame football program that were called during the 2022 NFL Draft. Surprisingly, Jack Coan wasn’t one of them. Good thing the Indianapolis Colts realized the opportunity on their hands and quickly snagged him off the free-agent list.
Jack Coan earned his stripes as a backup quarterback for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was elevated to QB1 in his senior year until a devastating injury sidelined him for the entire 2020 season.
This would turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the 6-foot-3 signal-caller, as he transferred to the University of Notre Dam upon his recovery.
His one-and-done year with the Fighting Irish was fruitful, as Jack Coan led them to an 11-1 regular-season record.
In 13 starts for Notre Dame, Jack Coan threw for 3,150 yards (253-of-386, 65.5%) and 25 scores against seven interceptions.
Perhaps he is best known for his resiliency after playing through a dislocated finger against Toledo last year. After getting his finger re-set, he threw the game-winning pass TD in the final drive to give Notre Dame the victory.
One thing coaches can’t teach is heart. Jack Coan certainly has one of the biggest ones. Fan Arch’s Jack Coan-inspired “Level Up” Collection is the perfect gear for those seeking to emulate the 23-year-old QB. Check it out on the Fan Arch website!
While Jack Coan’s dreams of getting drafted in the NFL didn’t turn into reality, landing with Colts is actually an ideal scenario for him.
After all, the Colts do have a unique QB situation following that failed Carson Wentz experiment last season. Matt Ryan, of course, will still have the keys to the Colts’ offense, but he isn’t exactly a spring chicken.
For now, Jack Coan should relish the opportunity to learn from a decorated QB with Super Bowl experience like Ryan. The Notre Dame alum could even give the Colts’ current QB2 Sam Ehlinger a run for his money.
If all goes well in training camp, Jack Coan could assume that role He certainly has all the right tools to do so. He brings size, leadership, and a versatile skill set to the QB position.
Let’s not forget he already has a rapport with Colts’ star running back Jonathan Taylor, whom he played with during his years with the Wisconsin Badgers. Watch out, Colts fans. Jack Coan might just surprise you this upcoming season.
