The expectation was for the Cleveland Browns to have a cakewalk in Week 3. After all, Daniel Jones just came off a historically bad performance and it looked like the New York Giants would continue to struggle. However, that was not at all the case and Kevin Stefanski got the short end of the stick which led to a 1-2 record. Who committed the most errors and took accountability? Let's find out in this article.
Deshaun Watson gets pummeled by the Giants defense
Look, any quarterback in the league who gets sacked more than five times will definitely have a shaky performance because the wind was knocked out of them. Watson was taken down a whopping eight times which was a point of concern for the Browns.
This severely affected Watson's ability to produce against the Giants defense. He missed 16 of his 21 passing attempts and was only able to notch 196 yards. While he did not throw an interception and got two touchdowns, the Browns quarterback was still shocked at how they got decimated.
“They switched up the gameplan We were expecting pressure, but as much as they brought it … you have to prepare for the worst. They did a good job of trying to create some mismatches and confusion up front to get us off our timing in the passing game. For us to try to create that, we have to win our matchups and try to figure out the right protection," he noted.
Watson could have done considerably better in his target selection but he was not the main culprit for this loss. It would have been their offensive line but Coach Kevin Stefanski had a big admission.
Browns head honcho takes accountability for Week 3 loss
Coach Stefanski knows that any good offense starts with protecting their signal-caller. They failed in that aspect when they went up against the Giants. He openly admitted that there were a lot of schematic holes which needed fixing as soon as possible.
“Obviously, Deshaun gives you everything he has. He can’t get sacked that many times, can’t get hit that many times. That’s not good enough. That’s on me and that’s on us to get it fixed. I got to get it fixed. It’s disappointing on a bunch of different levels. I know we can be better and we will be," the Browns coach declared.
An eager Las Vegas Raiders team who just lost to the Carolina Panthers await the Browns. Will they even up their win-loss record in Week 4?
