The game of football is one where being aerodynamic is important. Speed and inches are the names of the game because that's often what it takes to win in the NFL. However, some players have defied that notion and thrived despite donning long dreadlocks. Who could these big names be?
Perhaps, the greatest player to have ever grown out dreads is Marshawn Lynch. This elite running back was not at all worried that his hair often stuck outside the helmet he wore. In fact, he was even better than most rushers despite the dreadlocks. He won a Super Bowl and was named to five Pro Bowls in his career. Lynch did all of that while looking very stylish with his hairstyle too.
Larry Fitzgerald is also another name that comes to mind when it comes to iconic players who had dreads. The Arizona Cardinals legend was the most elite wide receiver in all of the NFL for such a long time. He led the league in receiving touchdowns twice in his career while also getting 11 All-Pro honors.
The love also has to go to some of the best defensive players in NFL history. Among the people on that list is a very fierce Bob Sanders. He is a very agile safety who won the Defensive Player of the Year award while also notching two All-Pro selections with the Indianapolis Colts.
This collection of names would not be complete without another legendary running back, Edgerrin James. He was a legend right from the get-go as James notched the Rookie of the Year award while also being named to the All-Pro team. His dreads along with the greatness that he exemplified on the field got him to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team.
