Ascend to Descend: What happened to Desmond Ridder?

Quarterback is the position that usually has a lot of turnover. A lot of squads cannot function well without a signal-caller who is capable of handling pressure and doling out huge amounts of yards per week. In short, anyone who plays this spot will always be on the hot seat. This is exactly what happened to Desmond Ridder.
After Matt Ryan, the Atlanta Falcons could not acquire a quarterback who could deliver weekly. Their playoff hopes are often cut in the middle of the season, leading to a dejected staff and fan base. Desmond Ridder was supposed to be the next big thing for them, and at some point, it looked like that was the case.
Ridder notched 708 passing yards in his first year and it was a good foundation for what could be a nice future ahead. His second year was when he took a huge leap. Numbers of 2,836 passing yards alongside 12 touchdowns were very impressive but were not enough to propel him into stardom. The Falcons would also miss the postseason in that year. What happened after? Well, the front office was set on trying to find someone new.
They replaced him by acquiring not one but two quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins joined them as the short-term signal-caller, while Michael Penix Jr. was their insurance plan in case things fell apart. Ridder was then headed to the Las Vegas Raiders where he would experience career lows. By the end of 2024, he only got 458 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He is just 25 years old which means there's ample time for him to grow. Hopefully, he snags a starting spot sometime soon again.
