A different look at Patrick Mahomes

Ever since Patrick Mahomes was named the starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018, the Chiefs have been a perennial Super Bowl contender every season.
Since 2018, the Chiefs have made five Super Bowl appearances and have so far won three of them. They’re currently the AFC representative of Super Bowl LIX, going up against the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.
During this run of dominance, Mahomes has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In just seven seasons as a starter, Mahomes has won three Super Bowl MVPs, two league MVPs and six pro bowls.
With his most recent win in the AFC championship game against the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes took sole possession of second place for the most playoff wins by a starting quarterback. Mahomes’ 17 playoff wins is second only to Tom Brady who has 35 postseason victories.
With Mahomes making his fifth Super Bowl appearance, he has a chance to win his four Super Bowl titles. This win would tie him with Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw for the second most Super Bowl victories for a starting quarterback.
A win in Super Bowl LIX would mean a lot to the Chiefs organization as well. If KC were to win the upcoming big game, they would become the first NFL franchise in history to win three consecutive Super Bowls and give them five Super Bowl championships all time.
Mahomes has already established as a guaranteed first ballot hall of famer, but another championship would put him up there as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
However, because of all of this success Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the more disliked players in the league.
There are a lot of reasons behind this: he has had so much success in such a short amount of time, he and his team benefits from poor officiating and his family constantly steals his spotlight.
I feel the biggest reason for all of this Mahomes hate is all of the success he’s had on the football field. The officiating plays a big part, but his greatness on the field is what has gotten every NFL to turn on him.
It wasn’t so long ago when in 2018 the Chiefs hosted Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game. At this point, Brady is already a five-time champion and people were tired of the Patriots’ success.
Everyone in America was rooting for the Chiefs, but New England prevailed once again and Brady went on to win his sixth Super Bowl.
Now it’s 2024 and now all of America is likely rooting for the Eagles to bring down Mahomes and the Chiefs. Regardless of how people view Mahomes and the Chiefs, it’s no denying that they have become one of greatest dynasties in NFL history.
Once Mahomes retires, people will look back on their greatness like they do Tom Brady’s. At this rate, Mahomes will wind up becoming the greatest quarterback of all time.
