Although the Commander's season came to an end on Sunday, the young team in Washington should be thrilled about what they were able to accomplish in 2025.
Jayden Daniels' rookie season with the Washington Commanders in 2024 was nothing short of historic, setting new benchmarks for first-year quarterbacks and revitalizing the franchise. He completed 69% of his passes, throwing for 25 touchdowns against nine interceptions. His Total QBR of 70.5 ranked fourth in the league, underscoring his efficiency and decision-making.
Daniels also amassed 891 rushing yards, the most ever by a rookie quarterback, showcasing his versatility and posing a constant threat to defenses. He looks like a younger, more dynamic and more clutch version of Lamar Jackson. Daniels set an NFL rookie record with 12 touchdown passes in the fourth quarter or overtime, five of which occurred in the final 30 seconds or overtime—the most by any player since 1970. The Commanders won seven straight games, including four on the road, before going down to Philadelphia against a great Eagles team.
In the postseason, Daniels continued to excel, bucking the trend of most rookie quarterbacks, who struggle under the brightest lights. He totaled 957 total offensive yards in the postseason, surpassing Russell Wilson's previous rookie record of 651 yards. In fact, Daniels set rookie postseason records for passing yards (822), completions (75), completion percentage (65.8%), and passing touchdowns (5).
The Commanders improved their regular-season record from 3-14 to 12-5, their best since 1991. They secured playoff victories against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions, marking their first postseason wins in nearly two decades.
Despite the 55-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, Daniels' rookie season is widely regarded as one of the greatest in NFL history, setting a high bar for future quarterbacks. The Commanders have a lot to build on. They still have plenty of cap space available, and with a budding roster, Washington looks poised to take over the NFC East in 2025 and beyond.
