Davante Adams is joining a new team for the 2025 NFL season. As the new league year begins, Adams becomes the first big name to leave the free agency market after signing a two-year $46 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
With Rams long-time veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp set to leave the team this offseason, it seems to be a perfect time to find his replacement. With Stafford returning to LA, there is little doubt that Adams will have a hard time fitting in with the Rams offense.
Adams will likely be the #2 wide receiver behind Puka Nacua. Adams will be 32 when the 2025 regular season begins and will likely not have the same explosiveness that he once had, definitely not more than the 23-year-old Nacua.
With Adams going to Los Angeles, it’ll be the second time in his career that he won’t be playing alongside his best friend, Aaron Rodgers. Adams joined Rodgers and the New York Jets halfway through the 2024 regular season.
Unfortunately, the once dynamic duo were unable to recapture the magic in New York and didn’t save the sinking ship that was the 2024 New York Jets.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, Adams hit free agency and the Jets waived Rodgers. It’s unclear where Rodgers will end up, but if he doesn’t find a team then it’s likely that Adams’ favorite QB will hit retirement.
With the addition of Adams, the Rams offense at the moment looks pretty dangerous entering training camp. Alongside Adams, Stafford will be throwing the ball to Nacua, Tutu Atwell and Tyler Higbee as the team’s starting tight end.
The Rams will also have Kyren Williams in the backfield, who is looking to finally have his breakout season barring any injury.
Just when it seems like the Rams will be in rebuild mode, they shock the NFL and make a splash free agent signing that’ll force the league to look at them seriously. However, what kind of player are the Rams getting with Adams?
Entering his age 32 season, Adams is no longer the explosive route runner that he once was in Green Bay. Adams could be taking on a more veteran leadership-type role to provide maturity to a young Rams offense.
Besides Stafford and Higbee; Nacua, Williams and Atwell are all young players that could learn a thing or two from the former all-pro.
While Adams is no longer in his prime, he’s still a deep-ball threat and a trustworthy receiver that Stafford can rely on in crunch-time situations. Adams most likely won’t have a 1,000 receiving yard season, but could very well 10 receiving touchdowns.
That being said, Adams is coming off his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season. In fourteen games between the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, Adams recorded 85 catches for 1,063 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.
Either way, this is a great place for Adams to go and a great signing for the Rams. Adams brings in experience and leadership and he also has the opportunity to return to the playoffs with the Rams team led by head coach Sean McVay
