A lot of the times, rookie quarterbacks succumb to the pressure of being under the spotlight. Bryce Young and Johnny Manziel have been prime examples of this. However, it seems like the Chicago Bears are doing something very different with the way they handle Caleb Williams. The young signal-caller is prepared to do everything for Matt Eberflus and Co. Why is his mindset like this? The former USC football star explains why in this article.
Caleb Williams' performance despite loss to Colts
Look, generational talents still struggle to get wins no matter how talented they are. But, the main separator between those who stagnate and the ones who climb to the top is being open to try out more schemes. Caleb Williams is the epitome of doing the latter and it showed by how he abides to Matt Eberflus' schemes.
The Bears rookie threw 52 times and was able to land 33 of his passes for a huge total of 363 yards. Williams did leave a lot to be desired after he threw two interceptions to the Colts defense but the willingness to do whatever it takes mattered a lot.
Bears rookie goes unconscious in throwing spree
It is fairly new for the Bears to be relying on their air attack this much. But, this is a welcome change and Williams seems to enjoy it. In fact, he even noted that the 52 passes he threw was not too fatigue-inducing.
“I threw 52 times? Jeez…I'll do whatever the team needs. If it's 50 times, it's 50 times. I can't have the two turnovers with those 50 attempts. And if it ends up being 10 times and I complete 9 of those 10 and we have 300 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns, I'm fully aware, fully ready to do whatever that may seem, whatever the team needs,” he said.
As of the moment, Williams has been on an exploratory journey throughout the first three weeks. He was sacked a lot by the Houston Texans defense and now had to endure this. What's next for the signal-caller as he tries to gain experience?
