LeBron James has proved his legacy throughout his career, and his talent was evidently passed down to his son, Bronny James. The 19-year-old was the 55th pick in the NBA Draft to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Amidst being teammates, the father-son duo has established that the youngster cannot call LBJ ‘dad’ during games.
Why Can’t Bronny Call LBJ ‘Dad’?
LeBron James shared in The Shop that he and Bronny already talked about how the workplace should be separated from their personal relationship, and shared that what should happen has already been laid down.
“[He] cannot call me ‘Dad’ in the workplace. Once we leave out of the practice facility and the gates close, I can be ‘Dad’ again. In the car we ride together, at home, I can be ‘Dad.’ No, [at work] he got to call me, like, ‘2-3’ or ‘Bron.’”
“Or, you know, ‘GOAT’ if he wants to, that’s up to him” James joked and sparked some laughter from the crowd.
This shift from calling his father by his name would definitely be weird at first for Bronny, but for LBJ, he says it’s not much of a change from him to call his son on a first name basis.
“It’s easy for me ’cause I’ve been calling him ‘Bronny’ for so long. It’s not like I’ve been calling, ‘Hey, son! Hey, son!’ So it’s easy for me. It’s gonna be an adjustment for him,” James shared enthusiastically.
“But we cannot be running down the court, and he be like ‘Dad, push the ball up!’ Dad, I’m open! Dad, come on!’ No, you cannot do that,” he added, and the audience burst out laughing.
LeBron James has been vocal about playing together on court with his oldest son, even saying it would be the greatest achievement he could ever get. Now adding this to his list of accolades, it’s safe to say the 39-year-old’s ecstatic about his son following his footsteps.
Bronny will be making his professional basketball debut side-by-side his dad, making them the first father-son teammates in NBA history.
