When people think of the San Antonio Spurs dynasty, the immediate star that pops into people's minds is Tim Duncan or even Gregg Popovich. However, the star that started it all was David Robinson. The Admiral was the rock and mentor to a lot of the greats who came out of the Spurs system in the 2000s. How much did he get throughout his time in the league and after? Let's find out.
David Robinson might just be the best player to have come out of Gregg Popovich's system. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker or even Manu Ginobili are all in strong consideration but there was no one quite like this behemoth of a man. He went straight out of the Navy to join the Spurs and never left. His mentorship gave way for the Spurs to win their first title and it also helped his co-stars become more disciplined leaders.
Throughout his time in the NBA, Robinson won two championships—one in 1999 and the other in 2003. If he had been in the same timeline and age as Duncan, the league would have a problem because they would have been an unstoppable frontcourt. His efforts on the court were also very well-recorded. Unsurprisingly, 1999 was his biggest contract year, when he notched $14.8 million of his $116.5 million of total career earnings.
Along with other sponsorships and brand deals, Robinson was able to earn a net worth of $200 million. He invested well and carried out some huge philanthropic efforts in order to get this kind of figure despite being retired for over two decades now. His legacy as a player and a mentor with the Spurs was surely repaid properly with the amount of pay he got.
