Being a defensive back is no easy task in the 2024 NFL season. Teams have heavily relied on a balanced offense throughout the year which means a lot of work to do for these types of players. Amid all of this tough work, there have been some safeties and cornerbacks who stood out among the rest. Who could they be?
1. Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals
It has been a tough couple of years for the Cardinals led by Kyler Murray. However if there's a bright spot amid all of this, it's their defensive backfield anchor. Budda Baker has been a revelation for the team. He is currently second in total tackles while recording 100 of them. Moreover, he also has seven tackles for loss and three passes defended.
2. Nick Cross, Indianapolis Colts
Much like the Cardinals, the Colts are struggling with their offensive production as of the moment. Their defensive unit has been holding it down and doing well at their job. Despite most of their defenders doing well, Nick Cross has stood out. He has 60 total tackles which is the third most in the NFL while also sitting tied at 17th with his two interceptions.
3. Xavier McKinney, Green Bay Packers
The Packers shouldn't just be optimistic about their offense, this squad's defense is lethal too. A big factor in their success is Xavier McKinney. He currently leads the league with six interceptions while also recording a sack alongside 42 total tackles. This squad clearly has a leader on both ends of the field.
4. Denzel Ward, Cleveland Browns
Myles Garrett may be racking up most of the numbers for the Browns defense but he is getting a substantial amount of help. Denzel Ward has been keeping the backfields safe and his production shows it. He is currently leading the league in passes defended by denying the ball out of a weapon's hand 15 times.
5. Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore Ravens
There are many great names in the Ravens' defensive unit but a young gun is the one racking up the big statistics for them. Kyle Hamilton has 71 total tackles alongside two sacks and three tackles for loss. He has been doing everything that John Harbaugh asks of him to keep the Ravens defense afloat.
