Whether it was seeing the decline of Randy Moss, Bill Belichick's deflategate, or their relationship with Tom Brady that ended with parting ways, there was always a dark side to the franchise. However, there is not a more grim story in the team's history than of Aaron Hernandez's downfall. How did the tight end up in that situation and how much was he left with?
Life looked very easy for the Patriots during the middle of their dynasty. Bill Belichick had a very reliable defense while Tom Brady would thrive off guys like Julian Edelman, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski. Things took a turn when the pick out of the 2010 NFL Draft got charged with double homicide.
Despite getting acquitted, the former Patriots tight end had to undergo a lot of therapy and counseling. Some bad behaviors pushed him to the point of nearly being broke while at the correctional facility. Hernandez was still able to save some money but it was far from the millions that he could have earned in the NFL.
After his suicide, his estimated net worth only clocked in at $50,000. To put how much his value went down into perspective, the Patriots signed him with a $39.5 million extension that lasted for five years. The way his finances went down is just one mere symptom of many mismanaged things in his life.
