Oftentimes, being married to a football player would mean that someone gets treated with less acclaim. One would think that this is the case for anyone Emmitt Smith got with but these thoughts were quickly debunked. Pat Southall was her own person and had a name for herself before, during, and after their relationship. Who is she and what happened that caused the two to split?
Pat Southall was a beauty queen but also had the perfect balance of wits. This is why she became the spokesperson for Treasure You. Prior to getting together with the legendary Dallas Cowboys running back, she was previously married to Martin Lawrence. In fact, they even had a child but things did not work out between the two. Eventually, the comedian and her got divorced in 1997.
She then met Smith and they quickly hit it off. They got married during the year 2000 and had a very happy family. The two welcomed three kids into the world and there was not much of an issue in their lives. Moreover, this couple also had a soft spot for helping the less fortunate. Southall was then tasked to lead the Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities in 2012 due to this. However, some good things need to have their unfortunate end.
Smith and Southall announced that they were getting separated in 2020: “We are publicly sharing that after much contemplation and prayer, we have decided to separate. We will continue to move forward with love and compassion for one another, as co-parents and friends. We will work together in the best interests of our children, our family, community, and businesses. As we take this journey toward the next chapter in our lives, we ask for privacy at this time.”
