December is not only the season of giving and bowl trophies. It has now become the time of year where college football programs can nab other stars who were dissatisfied from their previous teams. The College Football Transfer Portal has been a big talking point amid all conferences throughout the nation. This coming winter, there will be a lot of shakeups and some notable people have mixed feelings about what's about to happen.
Teams will now officially be able to notch big-name stars in December, thanks to the 2024 College Football Transfer Portal window. One program that is experiencing success feels like they should not be complacent. Which Big Ten program is this? Well, it's none other than the 7-0 Indiana Hoosiers.
"We're still going to have to hit the portal hard in December because the one thing about being in that roster situation I was in, a lot of the guys you bring in are one-year guys and some are two-year guys. So you're looking at somewhere between 28 and 31 seniors on this team. You're going to have to do it again," Coach Curt Cignetti declared.
It's not just teams too. A certain member of the SEC had this to say about some players getting over promised due to how the nature of the College Football Transfer Portal works. They may be fearing another scenario like that of Matthew Sluka: "I think people are going to overpay because at the end of the day, at most places, it's still the head coach making the call. It's not the AD. It's not the GM. It's the head coach. They're overpaying because they need to get the right players in. That's always going to be the case because your coach's job security is dependent upon it, so who cares? Overpay and deal with that issue later."
December might be career-defining for some players. However, coaching ranks and conferences all over the NCAA are in shambles due to the unpredictable nature of this window.
