The San Francisco 49ers were on the cusp of winning the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, a late-game collapse cost them a shot to reach football immortality back in February. Now, it looks like the front office plans to keep the same squad with Christian McCaffrey, and Brock Purdy among others. While this is great, they were not very financially flexible so decisions were made at the expense of Kyle Juszczyk.
John Lynch has worked his magic again. He convinced Kyle Juszczyk to stay despite the team needing him to take $1.8 million less in the coming years. A lot of stars who have reached the Pro Bowl would have been greatly disrespected by this move from the 49ers. However, Juszczyk is not like most people. He unveiled why he took the deal despite it hurting him quite a bit, via AP News.
“At the end of the day, I feel like I have the best opportunity in the world to play here for the Niners,” he said. “I do think that I’m being taken care of in a good way as a fullback on this team. I am happy with my role. My ego took some shots, but at the end of the day, I want to be on a team where all these superstars are getting paid more money because that means they did something great the year before. I feel a part of that,” he said.
All of this could be part of a big move to give Brandon Aiyuk a sufficient deal to stay with the 49ers. Juszczyk understands this and would love to sacrifice for his own squad such that they get a better shot of winning the Super Bowl by February 2025.
“I feel like every year there’s kind of been someone in that position. Honestly, I feel kind of well-versed in it. It really is something that in the locker room, we don’t take personally and we understand that guys go through that stuff and a lot of guys have gone through it ourselves. I think there’s a good understanding,” he declared.
