Why CeeDee Lamb isn’t attending Cowboys training camp

On another saga of holdouts in the NFL, Mike McCarthy has to make do with the Dallas Cowboys training camp without CeeDee Lamb. One of the most lethal route runners in the league is awaiting a new deal from Jerry Jones and the rest of the front office. With this desire for a longer tenure and security alongside Dak Prescott, a decision was made.
A lot of the discussions in the Cowboys front office have remained private. After all, Jerry Jones and Co. need to be very careful with their cards along with the leverage they have. If not, they might be set to lose CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott on their offensive squad. The fact that Michah Parsons is also expecting a new contract extension means that the Cowboys' general manager job just got way harder.
Lamb did not attend the Cowboys training camp after apparently learning about Justin Jefferson’s huge contract with the Minnesota Vikings. His fellow weapon out of the 2020 NFL Draft is set to earn nearly double his $18 million deal. This was qualified as the largest contract given in NFL history to a non-quarterback star. Obviously, Lamb wants more from the organization, per Schuyler Dixon of AP News.
To put it into perspective, Lamb notched 135 receptions in the 2023 season. This was a 28-catch improvement from his previous run. As a consequence, he also got 1,749 receiving yards with an average gain of 8.1 yards per catch. To top it all off, he also caught 12 touchdowns. All of which were career-high numbers and it is a huge sign that he is entering his prime.
It is understandable that Lamb would want a lot more than Jefferson because of what he has done for the Cowboys. The fact that they also reached the postseason a lot in that span of time may add to the desire of getting a new deal.
