ABOUT UFC
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is a Mixed Martial Arts promotional company based out of Las Vegas nevada. It was established in November of 1993 by WOW Promotions and the Semaphore Entertainment Group. The organization's first event UFC 1: The Beginning was held on November 12th 1993 in Denver Colorado. SEG became the primary owners of the UFC in 1995.
Following criticism of UFC 5, time limits were introduced as well as the ability for referees to stand fighters up if there was too much inactivity. Judges were also introduced to decide draws.
In 1996, Arizona Senator John McCain seeked to ban the UFC. 36 states banned the UFC. UFC commissioner Jeff Blatnick and referee John McCarthy worked with State Athletic Commissions for the UFC to adhere to their rules.
In 2001, SEG was on the brink of bankruptcy and sold the UFC to the Fertittas brothers for 2 million dollars. The Fertittas established Zuffa LLC. Lorenzo Fertittas was a member of the Nevada State Athletic Commission and were sanctioned in Nevada. The Fertittas brothers made White the organization’s President Dana White’s first UFC cards, were UFC 30 and UFC 31 which were located in Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City New Jersey.
The Fertitta brothers developed the Ultimate Fighter to increase the sport's popularity.
At UFC 157, the UFC created the women’s division, headlined by Ronda Rousey, the first UFC women’s champion. Today there are three women’s divisions in the UFC.
Zuffa LLC sold the UFC to endeavor for 4.025 billion. Dana White remained the President of the UFC.
In 2018, the UFC reached a media deal with Disney and ESPN .
