Conor McGregor's return to MMA is the most anticipated comeback in sports history. On Tuesday, Conor McGregor was interviewed by the Schmo and provided an update on his UFC return.
"I would like to square it away with Michael Chandler. We have had our beef it’s not settled. He has a match scheduled id like to fight maybe before that or before he’s recovered. There’s a few names being discussed.” McGregor stated yesterday.
Names such as Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker have been mentioned when speculating about McGregor's return. It feels like a clash with Michael Chandler is still inevitable but it may not be immediate.
When asked which fight is more important for McGregor between Diaz or Poirier here is what McGregor had to say. “Both is a must. Dustin is not settled it’s 1-1-1 and the Diaz one is also 1-1. So two big blockbuster matches and I’ll be excited to get them locked in.”
Dustin Poirier has been clear his next fight will be his last in the UFC. So if McGregor vs Poirier 4 ever happens it has to be now.
This week, Justin Gaethje's manager Ali Abdelaziz denied rumors that Conor McGregor will be facing Justin Gaethje.
“ He has turned down at least five times. He never wanted to have to do anything with Justin Gaethje” Abdelaziz told Submission Radio this week.
For those who recall, McGregor leaked DMs in 2020 between him and Dana White asking for a fight just before the pandemic hit. The opponent he asked for was Justin Gaethje.
When asked about Abdelaziz's comments at the press conference following Dana White's Contender Series the UFC boss defended McGregor.
“I don’t know if that’s true. We’ve never had those issues with Conor McGregor. Ever.”
Perhaps this was a play by Gaethje's manager to tempt McGregor into accepting a fight with Gaethje. The 35-year-old Gaethje was brutally knocked out by Max Holloway at UFc 300 in February. His career is winding down and the McGregor pay day is still real.
As always, we have to wait and see with Conor McGregor. For now, it is all speculation. Conor McGregor's anticipated return to MMA has sparked discussions about potential matchups, particularly with Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, and Nate Diaz, highlighting the significance of these fights in McGregor's career. As speculation continues, the urgency for McGregor to secure these high-profile bouts is underscored by Poirier's impending retirement from the UFC.
