Despite UFC Noche loss; Sean O'Malley Is Still the Guy

Prior to his fight at UFC, Noche O'Malley told reporters that if Conor McGregor loses his next fight,
"I am there. I am the guy, I am number one."
Unfortunately for O'Malley and his fans, things did not go as palnned. At UFC Noche, Sean O'Malley was outworked and outclassed for a full five rounds against Merab Dvalishvili. Despite losing his bantamweight title at Noche UFC, Sean O'Malley, being the guy, has not changed. He remains a fan favorite and the biggest star since Conor McGregor. The loss still stings.
"Over promised. Under delievered. Sorry guys. Love you," O'Malley tweeted immediately after his loss at UFC Noche.
To which UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen responded.
"You took a division that once didn't exist and at another time was going to be dropped into the most watched division in the sport. You broke the ALL TIME gate record and tried to win until the bitter end. Apology REJECTED. Wasn't needed."
After a brief hiatus to recover from his loss at UFC Noche, O'Malley is all set to return to the Octagon with a high-profile fight. His popularity among MMA fans is undeniable, and the entire community eagerly awaits his every move. As Conor McGregor has shown, winning every fight is not a prerequisite for being a UFC draw. O'Malley is still a dynamic striker and one of the most fun fighters to watch. That is why fans cannot wait to see him return to the Octagon. There are still plenty of big fights on the horizon.
"In terms of {What's next for} O'Malley, Sandhagen is it for me. That is a dynamic matchup that is a lot of fun." UFC fighter Anthony Smith stated this on the post-fight show.
However, Sandhagen is not the exciting matchup that awaits O'Malley in the bantamweight division. Former two-division champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo would like to fight Sean O'Malley next.
"If Sean O'Malley is willing and wants to fight this show who is the true king of Arizona, well, then here I am," Cejudo stated on his podcast Pound for Pound on Monday morning.
Even in defeat, the best fighters in the division want to challenge Sean O'Malley. He is a big-time draw for the company because he is more than a fighter. He is an entertainer. Sean O'Malley the fighter suffered a major set back at UFC Noche. The Suga Sean brand did not. His level of popularity and stardom will never be taken from him.
It is too soon to know what the future holds for O'Malley. But whether it is Henry Cejudo or Corey Sandhagen, the next Sean O'Malley fight will be a must-watch.
