The champ is ready to defend his strap as Bellator’s interim bantamweight champion Raufeon Stots gets set to face Danny Sabatello in the semifinals of the Bantamweight Grand Prix at Bellator 289 on December 9, 2022.
Stots (18-1) was crowned Bellator’s interim bantamweight champion after he beat Juan Archuleta via third-round knockout in the quarterfinals at Bellator 279.
That win was "Supa" Stots's 10th in a row - four of which have been by stoppage - and his sixth straight in Bellator.
Raufeon Stots will make his first title defence against Danny Sabatello, who is 12-1 and is riding a seven-fight win streak of his own. He has won his first three fights at Bellator, all via unanimous decision.
Stots and Sabatello had already traded barbs shortly after their bout became official. In their appearance on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the brash-talking Sabatello tried to get under Stots' skin. But "Supa" had the perfect response to silence the Italian Gangster.
“I can do whatever the f*** I want,” Stots said. “You know why? Because I’m the champ. ... I’m annoying and you can’t stop it, motherf*****.
That heated exchange was just a taste of what is in store when the two talented wrestlers finally square off in the semifinals with the interim title up for grabs.
Sabatello is a fine wrestler in his own right, but Raufeon Stots is on another level. He is a two-time NCAA DII wrestling title winner who has since developed into a well-rounded mixed martial artist, and it will take something special to take the interim strap away from Supa.
