There are many skills that UFC fighters to possess as an advantage over other people in their weight class. An underappreciated attributed would have to be their natural height. There's a very limited amount of people who possess this attribute. Who are they?
1. Stefan Struve
Dubbed as The Skyscraper, Stefan Struve is the tallest UFC fighter in all of history. He stands at a staggering seven feet and towered over all of his opponents. While many expected him to be slow on the octagon, he was still able to accomplish big wins throughout his career. For instance, the fighter from the Netherlands was able to outclass Antonio Silva and Stipe Miocic.
2. Wes Sims
If someone was named 'A Whole Show' while being 6-foot-10, a lot of fans would surely flock their matches. Wes Sims lived up to his name a lot. He had a 16-year run throughout his MMA career with a short stint in the UFC. Despite not having earned marquee wins in the league, he was able to make waves in the sport. It was because he lost Frank Mir due to an illegal kick while being in the ground.
3. Gan McGee
A skill that a lot of tall UFC fighters possess is being lethal when it comes to knocking out their opponents. Gan McGee is of a different breed. While standing at the height of 6-foot-10, he was able to notch 13 wins with 11 of them being by the way of knockout. His credibility got questioned after having tested positive for steroid use during the aftermath of his UFC heavyweight championship loss to Tim Sylvia.
4. Paul Varelans
A growing trend in this list is the fact that tall fighters don't usually have long stints in the UFC. Paul Varelans, who is measured at 6-foot-8, was no exception. He only fought from 1995 to 1996 and failed to record a notable win throughout that time. However, Varelans was able to use his height and massive frame in other sports. Notably, he was once a professional football player and boxer before passing away in 2021.
5. Tim Sylvia
Perhaps the most-accomplished tall guy in the UFC, Tim Sylvia was a dominant force to be reckoned with. He owns the record for most heavyweight title matches in the league and even won the honor twice in his career. Dana White was smart to get this 6-foot-8 man in his company because he had not lost a single one of his 13 matches prior to entering the UFC.
