The NFL has a lot of iconic monikers throughout its very long existence. However, nothing would ever beat out the classics. The Fridge, for instance, is a big name that many new fans won't recognize. When this nickname is dropped in the minds of oldheads, they will surely start to reminisce about the insane talent of the 1980s Chicago Bears.
William Perry is the true name of the The Fridge. He was aptly named that way because of how much his physique resembled the kitchen appliance. This behemoth stood at 6-foot-2 but weighed a whopping 335 pounds. He was a player who could dominate a lot. For instance, he was used by the Super Bowl-winning Bears as a member of their defensive line. The Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, primarily slotted him at the tackle position because of how wide he was.
The Fridge only played in the NFL for 10 seasons but Bears and Eagles fans will never forget him due to this freakish size along with the moniker that came with it. He did not stop after not making an NFL roster. Perry made an effort to join the London Monarchs in 1996 and succeeded. More than that, he also got to fight Manute Bol in boxing once and completed in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.
As of the moment, his health has reportedly been declining. He has suffered from diabetes and is also experiencing complications due to his alcoholism.
