According to a report from 2022, the average UFC fighter made $150,249 in that year. However, it's essential to note that this statistic is skewed by outliers, as the median UFC fighter made just $91,250. The five highest paid UFC fighters in 2022 earned an average of $1,177,200, with Israel Adesanya topping the list with $1,956,000 in purse money. These statistics shed light on the disparity in earnings among UFC fighters.
Fight Payouts
The UFC pays its fighters a guaranteed amount and a win bonus. For instance, at UFC 263, Leon Edwards was paid $110,000 to show and an additional $110,000 to win, totaling $220,000 for his victory. The amount a fighter makes also depends on where they are in the fight card. The higher the position on the card, the more a fighter earns. For example, the average fighter on UFC 263's main card made $220,300, while those on the prelim and early prelim cards made significantly less.
Discretionary Bonuses
The UFC also awards discretionary bonuses for highlight reel performances. At UFC 263, a total of $200,000 was distributed as bonus money, with individual fighters receiving $50,000 for their outstanding performances.
Proposed Minimum Salary Increase

While players in the NFL and MLB have minimum salaries significantly higher than the UFC's, the PFL has emerged as a potential game-changer in fighter earnings. The PFL has implemented a new tournament format that can guarantee fighters earnings of up to $1 million if they win the finals, representing a significant shift in fighter compensation within the MMA landscape.
