Dayvion McKnight has barely scratched the surface of his seemingly unlimited potential, and he’s only getting better with each passing day.
The Western Kentucky basketball program has a lot to look forward to this upcoming season following the strides Dayvion McKnight took in his sophomore year.
The 6-foot-2 playmaker out of Shelbyville, Kentucky already showed some promise in his rookie season for the Hilltoppers, notching 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.0 steal in 29 games and 17 starts in 2020-21. Not bad for a first-year player, right?
It was clear that Dayvion McKnight still had a lot to learn, but there was also a lot to like about his game. The Fan Arch athlete, after all, showed maturity beyond his age and had a knack for both scoring and facilitating. After gaining some valuable experience, it was clear that Dayvion McKnight would show improvements in Year 2.
But perhaps his Western Kentucky coaches weren’t expecting just how big that leap would be. After assuming the starting point guard role full time, Dayvion McKnight had the ultimate glow-up. In 32 starts, he upped his scoring average to 16.2 points and showcased better shot selection. This improved his efficiency greatly, shooting 47 percent from the field and 34 percent from downtown.
Dayvion McKnight’s all-around game also continued to blossom, recording 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals.

Dayvion McKnight will be returning for his junior year, and we all can’t wait to see an even better version of the young stud. He still needs to work on cutting down on his turnovers, as he recorded 106 last season.
Still, he finished as the sixth-leading scorer in the league, second in assists per game, third in minutes played, and fifth in field goal percentage.
Dayvion McKnight was also named All-C-USA First Team, NABC First Team All-District, and won C-USA Player of the Week twice during the season.
