Escalade is a name that most hoop junkies know. This behemoth of a man had a nice mixtape in Louisville but could not quite make it to the NBA. While his hoop dreams were cut short, he still had a stellar run on the court. Let's find out more about his life, accomplishments, and the indelible mark he left on the hard court.
Troy Jackson was born on January 11, 1973. He is the brother of legendary NBA coach, player, and analyst Mark Jackson. As they were a basketball family, Troy also tried to be one of the best hoopers in the nation. This was despite the fact that he weighed about 375 pounds and was 6 feet 10 inches tall. At one point in high school, he even weighed a little over 500 pounds but was still very mobile despite this.
In his second year at Wallace Community College, Troy was an all-regional honoree, which caught the eye of the University of Louisville. Troy was then recruited to play for them, and he ended his college tenure with the Cardinals. He was no longer able to play in the NBA and follow in Mark Jackson's footsteps, but his career had yet to take off.
This big man ended up joining the AND1 Mixtape Tour. His style of play was very mobile and flowed naturally. Many saw his talents all around the world and they were amazed by the fact that he was playing at such a frame. Fans all over dubbed him 'Escalade' and he ran with the moniker.
Unfortunately, Escalade's life was cut short at just 38 years old. He died due to a hypertensive heart disease during his sleep. His life was truly a reminder that anyone, regardless of shape, can hoop.
