Basketball head honchos tend to stick to one league and have to choose between teaching the pros, high schoolers, or college kids. Every great mentor has to pass through all of these levels in order to earn acclaim. However, only some are able to excel at all of them. One of those insanely talented minds is Coach Rick Pitino. Has he earned a pretty penny after all these decades of being a basketball coach?
Currently, Coach Rick Pitino is known as the head honcho of the St. John's Red Storm. Prior to coaching in that part of the East Coast, he has gone through a lot. He started out as a graduate assistant for the University of Hawaii until the interim head coaching position was given to him in 1976. From then, he became a highly-coveted basketball mind. Syracuse and Boston University both gave him a chance. Then, his big break came when the New York Knicks acquired him to be part of their staff.
Coach Pitino then visited Providence, Kentucky, the Boston Celtics, and Louisville. His talents also brought him to Puerto Rico and Greece. During that time, he won two NCAA national championships, which were 17 years apart—talk about adapting to the current landscape of the game. He also won the John Wooden Coach of the Year award and two Greek League championships. His legacy continues with the Red Storm as the St. John's basketball program just got their first month of being unbeaten since 1985.
With all of that said, Pitino has earned a lot of big bags throughout his coaching stints. He reportedly has a net worth of $45 million and that figure will only grow because of how successful the Red Storm has been under his mentorship. These numbers also make him one of the highest-paid coaches in all of basketball.
