A lot of big names came out of the mixtape era of AAU basketball. One of them is Julian Newman. He was undoubtedly the king of handles and talking smack on the court but his stature did not get him much offers to play collegiate basketball. So, did he continue hooping and is he playing in a league somewhere? Let's answer all those questions in this article.
A lot of companies like MaxPreps, The New York Times, and even Sports Illustrated dubbed Julian Newman as the next greatest thing in basketball. After all, it was not every day that scouts would get to see someone be given the honor of being the greatest sixth grade hooper of all time. However, this talent's height never quite grew. Up to now, he is measured at 5-foot-7 which is really not enough to make a Division I roster let alone be considered by any NBA team.
Despite this, Newman still made an effort to continue his basketball career. He joined the Bethesda University men's basketball team at 23 years old. But, his debut was not the best for a former star in amateur basketball. The scoring guard was contained by The Master's University squad which made him go empty the whole game despite having six field goal attempts. Unfortunately, their team also lost with a scoreline of 109 to 23.
There is still so much basketball left in the life of Julian Newman. Despite the tough start to his collegiate career, he will have the opportunity shine once again. After all, he is known for backing up his talk and standing on business. It might take time for him to grow into what he should become so all hoop spectators can do is wait.
