Today, college basketball is one of the most critical forums as it helps young talents get center stage for exposure and be rewarded after years of hard work. The NCAA is still trying to figure out how it will proceed with its new NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) rules as they come crashing down on college basketball, but a few relevant current players have already inked significant deals.
The most notable deal was inked with University of Kentucky star BJ Boston and Puma. Boston signed a seven-year endorsement deal with the company that keeps him unsigned by any NBA team. In addition to the seven-figure endorsement and bonus structure over seven years, BJ Boston will have access to Puma's resources, like their marketing and design teams.
Moses Wright of Georgia Tech is another player who has landed a significant NIL deal. Wright signed up for a three-year endorsement deal worth more than $300,000 with Nike. Nike allowed him access to its design team, enabling Wright to conceive his shoe. In addition, Wright is part of Nike's Elite program, which affords him access to fully customized apparel and sneakers.
Rocket Watts, Michigan State Watts, penned a four-year contract with Adidas and was awarded over $200,000 as an initial bonus. The contract also grants him access to Adidas' team of designers and an exclusive apparel deal. Among the advantages Watts has received is the opportunity to develop his signature shoe, which will be released sometime this year.
Similarly, Evan Mobley of USC secured a huge NIL deal with Finally. According to ESPN, a $500k bonus was included in Mobely's five-year deal with Nike. The Tyfa deal gives him access to the Nike design team and a shoe contract across every category. What's more, Mobley, being a member of the Nike Elite, is treated to a special Babies Series and designs offered by only one particular brand.
College Basketball Players are Using NIL Deals to Get Paid. They are raising the bar and giving other players a look at what could be and how valuable they could become by using their talents to leverage major deals. We are all anxious to see how the remaining players utilize their NIL deals to do well in both their own careers and the college basketball brand.
